One Thing: Day 333: I’ll Do It Myself…

Day 333: I’ll Do It Myself…

Yesterday I was explaining how to listen aggressively.

Speaking of listening…

After 6 months of listening to people talk with their masks on, I finally understand what Charlie Brown’s teacher was saying.

Other news in the ‘good to know’ category…

You should let all your Bookkeepers / Accountant friends know that if someone asks you if you’re a ‘Tik Tok Accountant’…

That this means, a prostitute.

Anyhoo…

Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:

‘Your High End Coaching Clients Perceived Value’

Otherwise stated as:

‘My clients are different and they only buy on price…’

Let’s role-play a coaching client that builds garages and high-end sheds.

We’ll call the person building the garages ‘Coaching Client’ and the person purchasing the garage ‘Garage Customer’:

Garage Customer: How much to build a garage beside my house (first question is ALWAYS price… please tell your clients to stop being surprised at this)?

Coaching Client: $5,000 for A to Z completion and you will not need to lift a finger.

Garage Customer: That’s expensive.

Coaching Client: What were you expecting?

Garage Customer: $2500 is what I was expecting.

Coaching Client: OK then feel free to do it yourself… make sure built it to code or you’ll have issues with the city and maybe your neighbors.

Garage Customer: I don’t know what you mean and I don’t really know how to build it.

Coaching Client: OK well for the $2500 you’re willing to spend… I will guide you rather than do it for you. You’ll save $2500 but you’ll also end up with some valuable building skills you can use in the future.

Garage Customer: Great idea, you have a deal.

Coaching Client: OK to get started please get your saw, table saw, skill saw, a sturdy table, router, sander, drill, nails, and a hammer, ready.

We’ll worry about all the other stuff you’ll need later.

Garage Customer: I don’t have any of that.

Coaching Client: Don’t worry the hardware store has all of it for sale.

Garage Customer: That doesn’t seem like an intelligent use of my money.

Coaching Client: OK I have some extras, I’ll rent all of it to you for a week for $500

Garage Customer: Agreed.

Coaching Client: I’ll be here Monday at 8am to start.

Garage Customer: I’m working Monday. I can only do this after work or the weekends.

Coaching Client: Well, like you, I work during the day so you’ll need to take the next 5 days off.

Garage Customer: That would mean sacrificing 5 days of pay from my job.

Coaching Client: That’s true…

And don’t forget when you do a project like this there isn’t just the building of the garage.

We’ll need to contact the city and make sure all is done to code as well as arrange insurance if anyone else is on the jobsite… Plan the garage on paper… Pick up materials… Travel time. Clean up time etc…

Garage Customer: This is a lot of work.

Coaching Client: Yup but it’ll go fast. Plan to pick everything up at 6.30 am on Monday so we’re ready to start at 8am.

Garage Customer: 6.30 am… I don’t wake up until 7am.

Coaching Client: How about you just do this and I’ll pay you the $5,000. Your price suddenly sounds very reasonable…

Bingo

Bango

Bongo.

Help your client walk through a similar dynamic like this with their products and services.

People DO NOT buy on price…

They buy on value.

But when you have no process to demonstrate the VALUE (see above) what can you expect?

If people bought on price… we’d all drive $2500 cars and live in tiny houses.

You heard it here first.

Obsessed with your business coaching success,

Karl Bryan aka King Karl

PS. Help your high-end coaching client play out a second dynamic similar to above… where they hire the cheaper operator and need to get it done a second time. Twice as much time, twice as much money and three times as many headaches.
