One Thing: Day 332: Listen to Listen
Day 332: Listen to Listen
Yesterday I sent you a couple of pictures of my beautiful Momma and explained what happened when a group of women saw Tony Robbins leave In and Out Burger.
Women can be tough…
If I was the cornerman for a female UFC fighter and she was losing the fight…
I would just yell:
“Calm Down”
In other news…
I wonder if there could be a more ridiculous and dangerous decision-making strategy than to put decisions in the hands of people who have nothing to lose when they’re wrong.
Anyhoo…
‘Aggressively Reading People’
Line up 100 people and 90 of them will tell you they are “good at reading people”…
Sadly, they’d be mistaken.
What people say and do in the most innocent of situations will speak volumes about their character.
How they treat the driver and the waitress… casual exchanges before and after the meeting.
In other words…
The ‘corporate persona’ of the average business owner can get CRUSHED… if you know what you’re looking for.
How is this helpful for you and your high end coaching clients?
The more you know about the business owner…
The more effective you’ll be at influencing them.
Observation is an aggressive act and seldom treated as so.
Here’s a list of my 6 secrets to effectively reading people:
1. Observe aggressively. You don’t need a psychology degree or a best-selling book to read body language, use of manners and the statement people make via their choice of wardrobe. Lack thereof?
2. Listen aggressively. What is being said, not being said and the manner in which it’s being said.
3. Talk less and listen more.
4. Take time to understand what you discovered about this person. How can you apply what you have learned to influence them?
5. Don’t show your hand. If you let them know what you know… you’ll dull its effectiveness.
6. Aggressively detach. Your power to observe will dramatically increase when you detach yourself, and your emotions, from the situation.
This is easier to do in person but is equally effective over the phone.
Take’s practice.
*Don’t listen to respond… listen to listen and listen to objectively observe*
You heard it here first.
