Yesterday I was explaining how a mountain bike can kill the economy.

Speaking of my mountain bike…

Here are things that used to hurt my back:

Crashing on my bike

Getting mowed over by a 6’4” defenseman in hockey

Lifting weights I had no business lifting

Fighting with a bouncer

Here are things that hurt my back in my 40’s:

Putting on my socks

Sneezing

Sleeping

Getting shoes on

In other news…

Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:

‘Leadership’

If I am honest with you the term leadership drives me crazy.

So overdone and improperly used.

Many look to the loud ongoing charismatic types for “Leadership” when in reality… the quiet reserved types like Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Charlie Munger, Mark Zuckerberg often create magic.

Doesn’t matter if you like or hate those guys… look at the ONE WORD at the bottom of this message for whether, or not, they’re PROVEN leaders.

On that note here are my 11 myths of Leadership:

Leadership is about having answers

Leadership is a title

Leadership is complex

Leadership is about leading others

Leadership is about eliminating mistakes

Great leaders are born not made

Extroverted leaders are preferred

Management is the same as leadership

Great leaders are trailblazers

Leaders must be charismatic

Leaders are highly educated

Leadership is not a one size fits all proposition and if I were to sum the word ‘Leadership’ up into a single word…

It’d be:

RESULTS.

Many ways to skin a cat.

Possibly value quiet and resilient over loud and fast.

“What you do is so loud that I can’t hear what you say.”
