Hider, Winger, or Installer? The Secret to Explosive Coaching Growth
Are You Hiding, Winging, or Installing?
Business coaches love chasing the latest tip, trick, and five-step hack. But here’s the truth, and it won’t always look good in your Instagram highlight reel: Real success deep, bank-account-fattening, reputation-building success comes from stepping up and evolving into what I call the “Installer.”
Let’s dig in. Are you stuck behind your laptop wondering why you don’t have more clients? Or maybe you’re “winging it,” trying whatever pops into your head, changing tactics every time you hear a new webinar. Or are you an Installer, following a system that delivers real, repeatable results?
The Three Levels of Coaches
I see them in every mastermind, event, and Facebook group:
- Hiders: Stuck in overwhelm, hiding behind busywork, endlessly tweaking websites. You’ve read every book, watched every webinar, but your client list is gathering dust.
- Wingers: You love the sound of your own sales pitch, but everything calls, offers, even coaching is done off the cuff. Some days you close a client; most days you don’t, and keeping anyone more than a few months is a distant dream.
- Installers: The elites. You’re running a business built on systems and frameworks. Acquisition, onboarding, retention it’s all mapped out. Clients stick with you for years, and referrals walk in the door. You don’t hope for results; you engineer them.
Installer Mode
Let’s stop dancing around the obvious: Installers make the real money. Look, if you’re serious about collecting $480K a year (20 clients at $2K/month) or heading toward that magic $600K (10 clients at $5K/month), you won’t get there with “winging it” or hiding behind Google Docs.
Installation is the path. What does that mean? It’s about taking a system a proven operating system and not just learning it for yourself, but installing it into every client’s business.
The Problem With Hiders and Wingers
Hiders, you’re stuck in paralysis. You know what to do, but every day ends with one more list, one more course, zero more clients.
Wingers, you might get lucky for a while. But when your guesswork dries up (and it will), clients fade, and referrals vanish. There’s no flywheel, no compounding growth—just another hustle.
Installation: The Game Changer
Here’s the fun part. When you shift to Installer mode, everything changes. Prospects sense it in fifteen seconds on a call. You don’t sell guesses; you sell certainty.
Example: Andrew, one of our coaches, used a gamified, step-by-step closing system, installed it, didn’t wing it. Result? Each attendee at his events leaves as a referral machine. Or take Bill: Cold calling isn’t about “hoping” for a connection. He installs a script, refines the process, and now 9 out of 10 business owners who pick up are deeply engaged (not all will buy, but enough buy and stick around).
“Installer” System in Practice
Let’s put some steps to this because action beats all the theory in the world.
- Find Your Framework. Stop searching for silver bullets. Your operating system should cover lead gen, sales, onboarding, retention all of it.
- Customize for the Client But Never Wing It. Yes, every business is different, but the system is the system. Install, then adjust. Don’t invent from scratch every time (that’s a winger’s trap).
- Teach Clients the Value of Installation. Owners don’t need more options; they’re buried in choice already. They need you to eliminate distractions and give them clear, step-by-step paths. Three priorities, not thirty.
- Track, Tweak, and Iterate. Installation isn’t set-and-forget. Data, feedback, and continuous improvement keep your systems sharp and your clients sticky.
Challenges You’ll Face and How Installers Handle Them
- Clients Are Overwhelmed: That’s why you’re installing, not advising. Strip out the noise, prioritize, and implement for them.
- Sticking With It: Installers play the long game. One client this month, two the next, momentum snowballs. Hiders never start. Wingers burn out. Installers build empires.
Installer Path
- Audit your current approach. Where are you hiding? Where are you winging it?
- Commit to one framework. Don’t Frankenstein your client process together from free PDFs.
- Set a “20 at $2K” or “10 at $5K” goal. Reverse-engineer the operating system to get there.
- Make installation non-negotiable. Every client, every time.
- Track your numbers. If a process or script falters, tweak and install the fix; don’t abandon the system.
This isn’t guesswork. These are the same strategies fueling $90K clients and multi-million dollar consulting businesses. Most coaches never get past hiding or winging it. The installer mindset is what separates the seven-figure earners from the rest.
Here’s your invitation: I created an operating system that you can install in any small business to increase profits, repeatable, proven, and yours if you’re willing to step up, install, and execute like an elite.
Book a call and let’s walk through how you can put this system to work so you can stop hiding, stop winging it, and finally get the results and recognition you deserve.
