Yesterday I was explaining how I managed to turn a bad hockey penalty into a three game suspension as well how I skip all Tuesday Night Football games to get brownie points with my wife.

Speaking of unsuccessful brownie points, here’s a conversation between Dave and I.

Dangerous Dave: The cops came to my house last night.

Me: What did they say?

Dangerous Dave: They asked me where I was between 5 and 6.

Me: And what did you say?

Dangerous Dave: Kindergarten.

“Give ’em the razor, sell ’em the blades”

When we were in Cancun for Business Coaching Mastery I explained how ‘High Ticket’ is usually hollow advice from rookies trying to sound smart and get you to buy their new thing.

Here is what I mean.

30 years ago Gillette used to send out complimentary shaving kits to men celebrating their 18th birthday.

Premise:  Get them using their brand via reciprocity (a free present at age 18), and they’ll never switch.

Let’s do some MATH:

90% ignore the promotion entirely and Gillette ‘wastes their money’ on them.

10% use Gillette and therefore need to buy Gillette blades.

That 10% of the 18 year olds, spend $50/yr on replacement blades for the next 20 years.

That’s an average return of $50 (10% * $50 * 20 yrs).

The gift costs $10 to send in the mail.

Gillette post two million a year.

$120M million revenue.

$80 million profit.

I gave multiple examples at BCM7 with the exact same framework.

Maybe your High Ticket Closer needs to go to business school before giving you hollow advice.

Maybe not.
