Day 522: The “Freeloader” and Authority
Yesterday I was explaining the IKEA effect
Speaking of building furniture in my nightmares…
My consistently drunk Aunt was over the other night when my 7th beer whispered to
me to tell everyone exactly what I think during family dinner.
Here was a conversation afterwards:
Aunt: *yells from other room with the rest of the family* “Karl, do you ever get a
shooting pain across your body like someone’s got a voodoo doll of you?”
Aunt: *yells back* “How about now…?”
In other news…
I’ve never understood the attraction to peppermint body wash until today… it’s like
my bumhole smoked an extra strength king size menthol cigarette.
Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:
‘Coaching Client Authority Bias’
Your prospects and high-end coaching clients are HIGHLY influenced by the
thoughts and views of people they see as an authority.
Celebrities are a classic example.
Or politicians like non Native American, liar, Elizabeth Warren, who says Elon Musk
is a “freeloader” for not paying his fair share of taxes…
… while he’ll pay $21 BILLION in taxes in 2021.
How much does he need to pay to be considered a non-freeloader by her lofty
Your job before you try to sell them…
… is to make them see you as an authority.
I know you ‘have heard this before’ and you’ve heard the story of the Doctor, who
intentionally makes you wait in the waiting room, always wears the white coat to look
important and the stethoscope around his neck…’
But, STOP and make a list of ways YOU can increase your authority with prospects
A list off top of my head:
Command your voice (the music is in the spaces between the notes)
Stories you tell (name drop, tell stories of successful clients when explaining
Be opinionated (back it up!) and stand against stupid norms (career politicians with
net worth of $50 million + perhaps??) without sounding like a jackass
Educate them and don’t be shy to do so
Process you use
Testimonials you collect and USE
Have them see you speak in public
Have a powerful email signature
Have a powerful LinkedIn profile
Give them your book (remind them of your book… we provide all our coaches their
own book within 30 days)
Have a membership site (we have a DFY if you don’t already)
Have a group coaching program (we build game changing software that provides
Group Coaching and positions you as the superstar)
Lots of other stuff you can do…
… but JUST DO IT.
