Day 462: 11 Uncomfortable Truths

Yesterday I was explaining how in my late 40’s I finally realized that the most valuable piece of real estate is seldom guarded.

Stand guard at all times.

Speaking of military training…

Here’s a conversation I overheard my Aunt having:

My Aunt: (sobbing, eyes swollen, nose red) I can’t do this, I can’t see you anymore… I’m not going to let you hurt me like this again..!

Trainer: It was a push-up Aunt Lorraine… you did one, single, push-up.

While on the topic of pain…

When you’re dead, you don’t know you’re dead. All of the pain is felt by those that know and love you.

The same thing happens when you’re stupid.

In other news…

There’s a time to be nice and there’s a time to say:

“I’ve had enough of your bullsh*t.”

Anyhoo…

Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:

‘Uncomfortable Things to Think About’

I think there’s an insane amount of power in that SJ quote.

Without going into the gory details… I owe A LOT of my success to three things:

1. My big bro died when I was 16 years old.
2. I thought I was going to die for an extended period of time.
3. The first two created an attitude of… I don’t want to die wondering.

As a result…

Here are 10 uncomfortable truths… my hope is that you’ll CHANGE (your micro-commitments) as a result.

1. You don’t have what you want because your standards are too low.
2. You are going to die and you have no idea WHEN, where, or how.
3. Everyone you know and love is going to die and you don’t know WHEN, where, or how.
4. Your obsession with finding happiness is why you don’t have it.
5. Happiness is an inside job.
6. Your material things do not, and will not, make you happier.
7. ‘Delayed Gratification’ is a Super Power of the successful, happy, and content.
8. Time is your most important asset… spend it thoughtfully.
9. Your greatest investment will always be in yourself.
10. You are the author of your own life story.
11. At your funeral they will not talk about your accomplishments… they will talk about the person you became achieving your accomplishments.
12. Writing your own obituary is an insanely powerful exercise (but you won’t do it).

Dead people get more flowers cause your regret is so much stronger than your gratitude.

Stop it.

You heard it here first.

Now, pick up the phone and go help someone.
