Day 371: Let’s Compare…

Thank you for all the kind messages for the death of my hockey buddy, Paul Johnston.

GREAT GUY, beat stage 4 cancer, once, against the odds (which is why I call him “The 6’5” Medical Miracle”) loved a glass of red wine, and gone far too soon at 47.

Speaking of wine…

I saw a wino on the street corner last night, eating grapes.

I said: “Dude, you need to wait!”

In other news…

My wife’s love language is:

“No one talk to me until after I’ve had coffee.”

Anyhoo…

Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:

‘Comparables’

If you were to want to lose weight… jumping on the scale is a good idea.

But what’s necessary is a comparable.

You might be 200 pounds…

If you were 180 six months ago then 200 is probably a bad number.

If you were 230 six months ago then you might be doing great.

What matters is the COMPARABLE.

Accountants screw this up with ridiculous consistently.

A single column of numbers on an Income Statement will not provide much intelligence for you or your high-end coaching client.

Same as the scale reading 200 pounds.

What your client needs is multiple numbers, over multiple time periods, so they can COMPARE and see how they’re trending.

Comparing revenues in April to revenues in March is a start.

But comparing April, March and February revenues is better.

Comparing 2020 April / March / February to 2021 April / March / February is a dramatic upgrade.

Compounding on what I wrote you last week…

The more data points… The better the DATA.

The better the DATA… The better the DECISIONS.

The better the DECISIONS… The better the NEW ACTIVITIES.

With 90% predictability, the accountant is providing your clients one reporting period ONLY and that is a mistake.

You work on commission, right?
