Day 292: Mistakes on Social Media
Yesterday I answered the question of how do I turn a negative client experience into a ten-year raving fan that spends a fortune with you.
Speaking of answering questions…
I met with a counselor and here is how our conversation went.
Female Counsellor: If a woman sleeps with ten men you call her a whore. But what do you call a man doing the same?
Me: Gay. Definitely gay.

Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:
‘Mistakes on Social Media’
Sadly, I spend more time on social than ideal.
But it’s not uncommon for me to post and get 100+ comments.
Trying to work out where the balance of maximizing, what I refer to as, ‘Social Acceleration’ and having a life.
During my over usage, but highly profitable time, on social… here are some mistakes I commonly see and ones I recommend you avoid if you want to build ‘Social Acceleration’.
Stop Doing This:
- Posting your own quotes. Please stop, it’s embarrassing
- A business owner should post for one of two reasons. 1) To be educational 2) To be entertaining. Don’t post just to post
- Liking your own posts
- Getting offended every time someone disagrees with you and going back and forth for all to see
- Saying something controversial but stating a warning prior to writing it
- Referring to yourself as “authentic” or an “expert”
These behaviors scream neediness and insecurity.
The opposite effect of what I’d assume you’re going for on social.
Pro Tip: If you want to experience Social Acceleration you need to start “standing against” rather than only “standing for.”
It’ll get you ten times the engagement.
Here are some things you’ll see me ‘Stand Against’.
Multiple Streams of Income:
Anyone talking about this is trying to sell you a program or a bad book. Follow Bezos, Gates, and Jobs and build ONE BULLET PROOF STREAM of income.
Michael Gerber:
Smart guy, great book, but he’s never built a business and therefore not my guy by any stretch of the imagination.
Influencers:
An example would be idolizing Tim Ferriss. I agree he’s a smart cookie and I listen to many of his podcasts. But I’m BUILDING A BUSINESS and he’s never built one of even moderate significance.
Even I wanted to build a podcast with a rabid following… I’d follow Tim Ferriss.
Go with Your Gut:
Gut stands for Gave Up Thinking. If the football coach went with his GUT he’d for it on 4th and 1 every time. But he doesn’t. Go with the DATA.
Jay Abraham:
A GENIUS and personally responsible for making me millions of dollars. I honor him for that but the truth is he still goes from deal to deal and has never built a business.
Was my guy when I was getting going but no longer my guy.
Question…
So, what do you stand against?
Go post it and see what happens.
And please stop quoting yourself.
It’s embarrassing.
