Day 240: A Defense Fund

Thanks for all the replies to my thoughts on the professional athletes refusing to play to bring awareness to an important cause.

I lost count of the replies… many were abusive, which is never a surprise, but I also enjoyed reading those that were proposing SOLUTIONS. 

I’d like to see the athletes put their money where their mouth is.

I propose all professional Players / Teams / Networks / Owners donate 1.5% of gross revenues (never do profit because it can be manipulated to 0) to a lawyer defense fund.

They’ll take on any racial injustice case for free.

Holds everyone accountable.

If a Police Officer’s name keeps appearing you know what’s going on. If an individual shows up too often making unsubstantiated claims… you also know what is going on.

It’ll have growing pains but will improve dramatically over time.

If they did what I propose…. a $1 million dollar salary is $15,000 which is a bar tab for those guys.

Seems appropriate given the crazy state of the world.

It frustrates me that this word is so overused in the business world and subsequently lost the power it deserves.

It’s not just a word… its actions and how a business coach carries himself/herself.  

In order to create a powerful company… hard decisions need to be made consistently and you’ll need to accept beforehand that you’ll often be wrong.

Three Key Things a Leader Must Do

  • Clearly define the outcome the business will achieve
  • Create a business roadmap to achieve said outcome
  • Create key performance indicators showing performance towards (lack thereof) said outcome

Once this is established you need to be dogmatic with the outcome…

But flexible in your approach.

Help your high end coaching clients do this… and they’ll keep you forever.
