Day 192: Muhammad Ali, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts

Thank you to everyone who sent through Congratulations comments etc… from yesterday’s email.

Only problem is a couple dozen emails said ‘congrats on being ranked #12’… I was actually ranked #6!

I need to be more clear in my posts apparently LOL

Here’s a quote to ponder to get the rest of your week cranking and feels fitting during these crazy times:

If you’re going through hell, keep going.

~ Winston Churchill

This is a follow on from feedback I got last week where I mentioned Chevrolet ‘not representing anything’ in the eyes of the marketplace…

“Contraction VS Expansion”

Not that long ago a ‘coffee shop’ served breakfast, lunch, dinner, hotdogs, pancakes, ice cream, and of course coffee.

Howard Schultz thought contraction… and “Why not focus on selling great coffee?”

Starbucks narrowed its offerings and is now worth $22 Billion.

Lush make natural cosmetics fun.

Airstream sells aluminum ‘aircraft grade’ trailers.

Whole Foods specialize in organic foods.

Subway specializes in sub sandwiches.

Dunkin Donuts specializes in donuts.

Great Clips specialize in cheap haircuts in popular locations with lots of foot traffic.

Planet Fitness offers $10 / month gym memberships.

For your coaching client to ‘rule the category’

  • Hyper focus
  • Stock in depth so they don’t need to go anywhere else
  • Buy cheap
  • Sell cheap (careful on this one)
  • Build the brand strategically

You heard it here first.

Obsessed with your business coaching success,

Karl Bryan aka King Karl
