Day 190: Love Your Family, Choose Your Peers 

Was walking down the street and I saw a French guy wearing sandals.

I asked him his name and he said, Phillippe Philloppe

Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:

“Improving your Personal Brand”

I got a ton of feedback on this one over the past week… possibly a record.

Consistent amongst the replies was ‘how do I improve my Personal Brand?’

To be meaningful your personal brand needs to become part of everything you do.

Especially those critical moments when you’re put to the test.

For an athlete, this is the last two minutes of the game when it’s won and lost.

I’ve played in some high stake’s hockey games with National Championships and World Championships on the line.

Never ceases to amaze me the same guys ‘lose it’ when things are not going their way in the most critical of times.

They choose to start a fight with 2 minutes to go when we’re trying to make a comeback.

Part of it is giving up and part of it’s not being able to handle not being the center of attention.

Tony Robbins would call this ‘significance’.

Here’s a hit list I’ve compiled for you on how to be the person ‘your team’ can count on:

  • Identify, truthfully, what your ‘Personal Brand’ is (From Monday’s email: Standards, Abilities, Traits, and Relatability).
  • Understand that the best ‘Personal Brand’ is one that is constantly refined and improved.  Be strategic about the traits you want to represent.
  • Be proud of your Personal Brand. Identify your values and hold yourself with confidence, poise, and humility.
  • Align what you say with what you do. You will not be perfect here and no one is… but it’s critical these two stay in close proximity of one another.
  • Your Personal Brand will be dramatically affected by the company you keep. Strategically surround yourself with people that have similar values to the Personal Brand you want to represent. Remember to “love your family but choose your peers.”

It’s not about wearing a flashy suit or standing in front of a Lamborghini you don’t own… it goes miles deeper than a ‘slick veneer’.

When someone takes the time to pose in front of a car they don’t own and couldn’t afford… then post it all over their social media profiles.

You know they’re an idiot.

A branded relationship will only happen if both parties believe there’s a direct connection between each other’s value systems.
