ONE COACHING THING – Day 135 – RIP Jack Welch 

Yesterday I was explaining how money is like “heat” for a cake and how tech companies rode a financial wave of delusion.

This Is From A Multi-billionaire About Tech:

“In an industry known for its irrational enthusiasm, skepticism has now taken over.

Last month tech companies Zume and Getaround slashed over 500 jobs. We Work slashed 4000.

23andMe and Quora and a lot of tech startups will likely not make it through this year. It feels like a day of reckoning is here.

Investors struggle to adapt to a new reality.

There will be a major difference this time, the start-ups will need a viable financial model that leads to profit.”

Read that last sentence again, please.

What a novel concept.

Money is the heat.

Not the flour.

Anyhoo…

Jack Welch passed away and he’ll be sorely missed… a phenomenal businessman they called “Neutron Jack” for his ruthless talent for eliminating unnecessary expenses.   

Under his 20 year leadership, General Electric stock price increased slightly over 4000% and was worth a cool $410 Billion in 2001 when he retired.

Today’s One COACHING THING

Is straight from the late great Neutron Jack:

‘Love ‘em to Death.’

This quote embodies his leadership style that grew a $410 Billion dollar monster under his direction and business philosophy perfectly.

In his words here is how you build a monster:

“Get the hell out of the office. Get out and touch the people. Listen, Listen, Listen. Love em to death and touch them, get inside their skin. Excite them about what they’re doing. Give purpose to their jobs and their lives. That’s what this is all about. We spend most of our waking hours on these jobs. Make them fun, make them exciting, and reward the hell out of the ones who do the job you ask them to do.”

Think about that from a business coaching point of view.

That’s why we do what we do…. Use your leadership and coaching skills to give business owners back their worth, dignity and recognition.

They’re struggling badly in silence.

They need your leadership.

They need you to SHOW UP.

But are you going to “Get Out And Touch The People” or continue to hide behind your computer and experience pain?

Don’t touch them in a weird way.

Weirdo.

But love ‘em to death.
